This upright position can help the flow of liquids in your body. Keep cinnamon gum on you at all times, and eat a stick of it after every meal. Saliva production is increased when you chew. This will neutralize stomach acids. Additionally, the constant swallowing during gum chewing will help to clear the esophagus of lingering acid. You can use gums that come in fruit flavors as well. Gum containing mint is not a smart idea. Mint relaxes the esophageal sphincter and worsens acid reflux. Try not to drink too close to mealtime; drink in between meals instead. If you drink too much at meals, your stomach will become too full. This can cause excessive pressure on the esophageal sphincter. This pressure can force the acid from your stomach to work their way up into the esophagus. Continued exposure to the stomach acid can harm, or possibly destroy, the lining of your esophagus. If you're active and you notice reflux symptoms following strenuous activities, there might be an easy fix. Drink more water. When you drink more water, your body is hydrated sufficiently. It will also help ensure your food digests properly. This ensures acid production stays at a minimum. Are you pregnant? If so, then your baby's weight may be putting additional pressure on your stomach, causing acid reflux. Speak to a doctor to see what to do about it if this is what you have, especially later in the pregnancy. Are you knowledgeable about how to get relief? If you are, then it's time to get busy. Try relaxing. Stress can cause you to overeat, making your condition much worse. When your meal is finished, relax by doing some deep breathing or meditation. Avoid lying down right after eating.
